Pirate Ship

Of all the wonderful things that I’ve discovered in Prague, Pirate Ship is probably the most amazing. Its real name is Božkov Tuzemský but due to the distinctive label has been renamed Pirate Ship. It is technically rum, but tastes like no rum you have ever consumed. It is more like the nectar of the Gods—us—and is fairly reminiscent of eggnog in flavor. It is also one of the smoothest shots you will ever take and doesn’t really need a chaser. This doesn’t stop us from making the chaser an important part of the Pirate Ship tradition, but in a pinch no chaser it ok. The first time I had Pirate Ship was at Fiesta Night at Kellie and Kendra’s apartment. One of their roommates, Geraldine, who is Hispanic, was making authentic Mexican food. Unfortunately all the booze was gone before dinner was ready so Kellie and I went to get more. We bought a bottle of vodka, and Pirate Ship. Needless to say the vodka was not even touched. We didn’t have anything to chase with so we resorted to using the cheese cubes from the fajitas. This was a phenomenal chase and made us realize the only way to chase Pirate Ship is with random food items. Here are some of the rules of Pirate Ship:

  1. Chase it with food
  2. The food must be random—bonus points for weird
  3. You should not use the same food twice
  4. When visiting people, always bring Pirate Ship
  5. Pirate Ship is an evangelical lifestyle, convert as many people as possible

Pirate Ship has transcended drink and become lifestyle, it’s very Prague. Pirate Ship is the reason it’s ok to stay at the bars till 8AM or to start drinking at noon. Pirate Ship is unlike any other alcohol in that it will never do you wrong. You all should try it at sometime; I’m going to try to bring some home so you all can. Here’s a list of things I’ve chased Pirate Ship with, in no particular order, but pudding was the best:

  1. Cheese
  2. Banana Chips
  3. Pudding
  4. Flan
  5. Cheetos puffs
  6. Ice cream
  7. Cashews
  8. Chocolate
  9. Candy hearts
  10. Beer (isn’t food so it doesn’t really count, but we’ve do it)
